Job Description :Excellent work schedule, four ten hour days. Overtime if there is any, is typically worked on Fridays. Set up or operate machine that perform binding operations, such as pressing, folding, or trimming. Lubricate, clean or make minor repairs to keep machines in working order. Prepare finished books for shipping by wrapping or packing books and stacking boxes on pallets. Cut binder boards to specified dimensions using board shears, hand cutters or cutting machines. Examine stitched, collated, bound or unbound product samples for defects, such as imperfect bindings, ink spots, torn pages, loose pages, or loose or uncut threads. Compress sewed or glued signatures, using hand presses or smashing machines. Design original or special bindings for limited edition or custom binding projects. Read and follow directions on work orders. Set up and operate glue machines by turning switches, activating heat elements and adjusting glue flow or conveyor speed. Stitch or glue endpapers, bindings, backings, or signatures using sewing machines, glue machines, glue or brushes. Apply color to edges by using brushes, pads or other machinery. Form book bodies by folding and sewing printed sheet and assembling pages in numerical order. Maintain daily production numbers. Punch holes in and fasten paper sheets, signatures or other material by using hands, machine punches and staplers. Cut cover material to specified dimensions, fitting and gluing material to binder boards by hand or machine. Bind new books using hand tools such as folders, knives, hammers or binding tools. Trim edges to size using cutting machines, book trimming machines or hand cutters. Install or adjust guides, rollers, rounding forms, creasing rams or clamps. Imprint or emboss lettering, designs, or numbers on book covers using gold, silver or colored foil and stamping machines. Perform highly skilled hand finishing binding operations such as grooving or lettering. Repair, restore, or rebind damaged books.
Required Qualifications :May operate bindery machines such as coil binders, thermal or tape binders, plastic comb binders or specialty binders. Must be a team player willing to be flexible in job duties and willing to learn new skills.
